Mary Heneberry
Head Coach, U.S. Coast Guard Academy Women’s Lacrosse

Mary is entering her third season as head coach of the women's lacrosse team. The Bears women’s lacrosse program was elevated from club status for the 2014 season and compete at the Division III level in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

In her first two years, Heneberry has compiled a record of 15-20 the programs most successful year in 2018. In only the team's fourth year at the varsity level, Heneberry led the Bears to their first NEWMAC regular season win, first winning season (12-7), first NEWMAC Tournament appearance and first NEWMAC tournament win. She was named 2018 NEWMAC Coach of the Year, oversaw the program's first conference rookie of the year and first five All-NEWMAC team members.

Before becoming the Coast Guard women's lacrosse head coach, Heneberry served as the first assistant and professor of physical education at Washington & Lee since 2012.  She helped the Generals win four Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships and reach two NCAA Regional Finals in 2014 and 2015. She was a member of the ODAC coaching staff of the year in 2013 and served as fall season interim head coach in 2012 and 2015.

She played college lacrosse at Division I Loyola University Maryland, earning Big East second team all-conference honors and was an all-tournament team selection in her senior season (2011). The Greyhounds were also Big East Tournament champions and made it to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2011.

In the summer of 2017, Heneberry played for the Boston Storm in the United Women's Lacrosse League. 

After she graduated, Heneberry was an intern and contributing writer for Inside Lacrosse Magazine, specifically ILWomen.com, from 2011-12 where she was responsible for weekly features on women's lacrosse, promotion of women's lacrosse and live game coverage.

From 2010-2012, Heneberry served as Assistant Director of the Diamond's Lacrosse Club in Baltimore, Maryland. She was responsible for promotion, recruitment and coaching of the club's six teams.

Heneberry then went on to help Casey Powell, four-time All-American, Division I Most Outstanding Player and Major League Lacrosse MVP, to run his spring break clinic series at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney in 2012.

On top of working with Powell, Heneberry served as varsity girl's lacrosse coach and assistant to the director of lacrosse at St. Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Florida from January to May of 2012.

Since 2013, Heneberry has served on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) convention planning committee. She contributes in organizing all facets of the annual IWLCA Convention for the coaches of the 513 NCAA women's lacrosse teams: plan four-day event itinerary, facilitate meeting and coaches panels and helped initiate and manage the first IWLCA rule change scrimmage.


Kayla Schroeher

Kayla Schroeher enters her first season as assistant coach for the women's lacrosse program.

Schroeher joins the Bears after playing four years at Springfield College where she helped the Pride to four straight NEWMAC Championship games and two NCAA appearances including the programs first ever trip to the Sweet 16 in 2016.

Schroeher finished her career with 85 goals, 24 assists and 109 points. Her senior season she had career highs in goals (40), assists (14) and points (54) and her junior season she led the country in shooting percentage (83%).

Schroeher majored in Movement and Sports Studies and minored in Coaching at Springfield. She is from Riverhead, New York.


Alex Eames
Director of Operations, Build Up Lacrosse LLC

Alex brings twelve years of Active Duty Coast Guard experience and six years of youth summer camp management to our team.  He is a 2009 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 2017 graduate of the U.S. Naval War College and has over six years of experience in higher education and college admissions.  Alex currently works as the Volunteer Programs Coordinator for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Admissions office and is serving as the Director of Operations for Build Up Lacrosse LLC.
